Position Title: Volunteer

Department: Animal Assisted Therapy

Position summary

Volunteers serve to provide a good public relations image for Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - McKinney by greeting, assisting and aiding patients, families and visitors. Volunteers also serve by helping to assist departmental functions when and where needed allowing the bedside leaders to provide continued high quality healthcare to the community.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NOT TO ENTER ISOLATION ROOMS

Roles/Functions

• Greet patients/families and assist by answering non-clinical questions
• Introduce Animal Assisted Therapy program, animals, and owner to patients/families/guests/staff as needed
• Give directions and/or escort patients/families to other areas of the hospital
• Escort animal assisted therapy animal and handler through hospital to visit staff and patients
• Provide hand sanitizer to patients, families, guests, and staff prior to and after touching the animal
• Provide timely notice (if able) if not able to escort

Department: Emergency Department

Position summary

Support clinical staff by performing non-clinical tasks related to department. Volunteers are not able to provide hands-on care of patients, perform any duties which will result in contact with bodily fluids or handle soiled linen or soiled items. Enhance hospitality with courteous communication with patients, family members and visitors.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NOT TO ENTER ISOLATION ROOMS

Roles/Functions

• Greet patients/families and assist by answering non-clinical questions
• Escort or transport of low acuity patients to triage area, ED treatment rooms
• Provide ice packs or warm blankets to patients in waiting room
• Give directions and/or escort patients/families to other areas of the hospital
• Restock departmental clinical supplies as directed but not limited to the following: nurses' station, supply cubbies, rooms, blanket warmer, triage/fast track area,
• Check expiration dates on supplies
• Keep waiting room tidy/wipe down chairs
• Refill blanket warmer and wipes warmer
• Round on patients to offer warm blanket, ice packs, pillow, help with the call-buttons, lights or TV (only as directed by charge RN
• Assist in clerical duties such as filing, running errands, copying, etc. as assigned

Department: Front Desk

Position summary

Volunteer is responsible for creating a warm welcome for patients, families, and visitors as they enter the hospital.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NOT TO ENTER ISOLATION ROOMS

• Greet patients/families and assist by answering non-clinical questions
• Give directions and/or escort patients/families to other areas of the hospital
• Assist with sorting mail
• Other duties as requested by department leadership

Position summary

Enhance hospitality with courteous communication with patients, family members and visitors.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NOT TO ENTER ISOLATION ROOMS

Volunteers are not able to provide hands-on care of patients, perform any duties which will result in contact with bodily fluids or handle soiled linen or soiled items. Enhance hospitality with courteous communication with patients, family members and visitors.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NOT TO ENTER ISOLATION ROOMS

Roles/Functions

• Greet patients/families and assist by answering non-clinical questions
• Assist families with belongings and sit with mother as family retrieves vehicle at discharge
• Give directions and/or escort patients/families to other areas of the hospital
• Restock departmental clinical supplies as directed but not limited to the following: nurses' station, supply cubbies, rooms, blanket warmers, etc
• Make patient education material
• Check expiration dates on supplies
• Refill blanket warmer and wipes warmer
• Round on patients/families to offer warm blanket, ice packs, pillow, help with the call-buttons, lights or TV (only as directed by charge RN)
• Assist in clerical duties such as filing, running errands, copying, etc. as assigned
• Answer phones and monitor admittance to the locked unit
• Other duties as requested by unit leadership
