Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease of the central nervous system

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is thought to be an autoimmune disorder. Myelin, a fatty tissue that surrounds and protects the nerve fibers, is lost in multiple areas with MS. This loss of myelin forms scar tissue called sclerosis, which causes the nerves to become unable to conduct electrical impulses to and from the brain. ​​


Multiple sclerosis treatment


There is no cure for MS. However, there are strategies to manage symptoms and improve function and mobility. Your Baylor Scott & White Health team will be able to answer questions you may have about treatment options.

Treatment plans for patients will be determined by their care team based on age, medical history, type and stage of multiple sclerosis and personal preferences.
