Regional destination for women experiencing high-risk pregnancies and newborns requiring critical care

The maternal and neonatal transport teams at Baylor University Medical Center are available 24/7 and consist of specialized registered nurses (RN) and respiratory therapists (RT) with advanced training in maternal and neonatal intensive care.

The maternal and neonatal transport teams utilize the most appropriate means of transport, helicopter, ground ambulance or plane, to provide the safest trip for your patients.

Maternal transport and high-risk maternal medicine services

Baylor University Medical Center offers a 30-bed dedicated antepartum unit and a high-risk labor and delivery unit, both equipped with advanced technology and an entire team focused on the long-term care of both mom and fetus.

Neonatal ICU transport services

Baylor University Medical Center has a dedicated Neonatal Transport Team that has an 83-bed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Each transport team is staffed by advanced skilled RNs and respiratory therapists with expertise in neonatal care.

  • Total body cooling for infants who have suffered a hypoxic ischemic event
  • Bubble CPAP, intubation and ventilator therapy, surfactant administration, umbilical line placement, needle thoracotomy, X-ray interpretation and full code situations
  • Attendance at high-risk deliveries for patients who cannot be transported
  • NIC-ViewTM secure online portal for parents to view baby from anywhere
  • Timely updates to referring physicians on their patients' conditions

    We are committed to education and offer several classes for labor and delivery, postpartum, antepartum and NICU staff.

    Our passionate transport team members teach STABLE, NRP, obstetric hemorrhage, malignant hyperthermia, all levels of fetal monitoring, neonatal emergency skills and much more. Simulation opportunities are also available.
