At Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – McKinney, our parent education classes are inclusive and comprehensive. No matter your birth philosophy, we have a class to meet your needs! Our class material reflects current practice and is offered in a variety of formats, so you can choose what will work best for your schedule and personal interests.

Not every family is able to attend parent education classes in person, while others learn better with a self-directed class. Baylor Scott & White Health wants you to get the information you need about this special time, no matter what your learning preferences are. We now offer online childbirth and breastfeeding education for your convenience.

Maternity tour

This interactive tour provides the expectant couple an opportunity to become familiar with Labor and Delivery, as well as the Postpartum and Nursery Units. All questions are welcomed.

A variety of comfort measures are taught and practiced in class, including relaxation and breathing techniques. Special procedures and epidurals are discussed, as well as an overview of cesarean birth, postpartum, and the newborn. Class includes maternity tour. Registration fee includes partner.

This interactive, web-based program includes animated illustrations, videos, and interactive games. The class is perfect to refresh parents that have already experienced childbirth. Breastfeeding classes

Breastfeeding basics

This class for expectant parents focuses on the joys and common concerns of breastfeeding. Information includes the benefits for mothers and babies, initiating feedings, maintaining a milk supply, and other practical considerations. Discussion includes combining breastfeeding and working, expression and storage of breast milk, and use of breast pumps. Both expectant parents are encouraged to attend.

This class is designed for those who prefer learning in the comfort of their own home and at their own pace. This interactive program includes videos and illustrations, and provides parents with the skills that are essential to a positive breastfeeding experience. Newborn Care

This interactive class is designed to help new parents develop realistic expectations while learning the basics of infant care. Topics will include soothing techniques, guidelines for safe sleep, diapering, car seat safety, feeding, and bathing. Invaluable parenting tips and resources will help build your parenting skills.

Infant and Child CPR

This non-certification class is designed specifically for parents, grandparents, and caregivers of infants and children. Our essential hands-on practice class provides the skills and confidence to turn a life-threatening situation into a lifesaving one. Come gain the confidence, skills, and knowledge to save a child’s life. This class is not booked by couple. Each person must register individually for a space in this class.

Preparing for fatherhood is no easy task. Men want to support their partners and new babies, but often feel lost and unsure about how to do that. This useful, informative, and entertaining class was created for men to help them find their way on this unique journey. With a positive focus on the importance of being involved right from the start, you'll learn how to support your partner through pregnancy and birth, as well as survival tips for those first few sleep-deprived months with a newborn.
