Clinical training programs in Dallas
To help address the state’s health care workforce shortage, the Texas A&M Health Science Center (TAMHSC) Vashisht College of Medicine and Baylor University Medical Center, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, have joined forces to establish a clinical training program in Dallas.
Through the clinical training program in Dallas, students will complete their first 18 months of medical education at the TAMHSC - Vashisht College of Medicine campus in Bryan-College Station. During their last two-and-a-half years of medical school, students enrolled in the program will complete clinical rotations in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Radiology, and Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center and other clinical affiliates.

Visiting student learning opportunities (VSLO)
Elective rotations are available to fourth-year medical students from outside of the TAMHSC - Vashisht College of Medicine that are interested in pursuing a residency at Baylor University Medical Center.
Interested allopathic or osteopathic students can apply through the AAMC Visiting Student Learning Opportunities application service (VSLO).
Elective rotations that are typically offered include:
- Dermatología

- Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R)

Visiting electives may be offered in two or four week rotations from July through January. Students can begin viewing courses and dates being offered, prerequisites, and institutional requirements on VSLO starting in March.
VSLO scholarship opportunities
The Department of Medical Education at Baylor University Medical Center is committed to creating a training environment centered on outreach, advocacy for improved access to quality healthcare, and building dynamic teams that serve our communities.
Scholarship overview
The goal of the scholarship is to support applicants who demonstrate a commitment to community engagement and collaborative, team-based service, while also easing the financial burden students may experience during an away rotation.
Students may apply that are interested in pursuing a career in one of the following specialties: General Surgery, Diagnostic Radiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, Pathology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, or Dermatology.
One scholarship award in an amount up to $1,500 will be available for each specialty to complete a rotation at Baylor University Medical Center between the months of July through January.

Any applications submitted after the deadline may be considered if space allows. If selected to receive the scholarship, you will receive notification via email by the fourth week of June.

Who should apply
- Senior medical students entering the current year’s match that are from LCME or AOA-accredited medical schools within the United States and Puerto Rico but whose home institution is outside of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex are welcome to apply.
- Students must first submit a rotation application through the Association of American Medical Colleges' (AAMC) Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) site.
- Senior students from Texas A&M University School of Medicine that are not assigned to Dallas as their home campus may apply after they have been scheduled to a visiting elective associated with the residency they intend to match into.
