There are three major types of diabetes.
- Type 1: A chronic condition in which your body produces no insulin and cannot process glucose (blood sugar)
- Type 2: A chonic condition in which your body doesn't process glucose properly because it doesn't produce enough insulin or your body resists insulin
- Gestational: A usually temporary rise in blood sugar levels during pregnancy
You might also be diagnosed as prediabetic, meaning your blood sugar is above normal but not yet high enough for you to be considered diabetic.
No matter which form of diabetes you have, or if you want to take steps to prevent diabetes in your future, the healthcare professionals at Baylor Scott & White will work with you on a management program that could include medication, lifestyle changes and nutrition planning.
