​​​​​A diagnosis of diabetes may raise questions. That’s where we come in. At Baylor Scott & White – Plano, we provide personalized care for people who have diabetes. It begins the moment you arrive, when our diabetes educator will meet with you to explore your lifestyle and help make a plan that will work for you.

You’ll also discover you are not alone in our  diabetes support and education group, where you can spend time with others who understand and take part in educational programs from Baylor Scott & White – Plano’s diabetes experts. Plus, our diabetes management programs help you learn how to keep your diabetes under control—so it doesn’t control you.

Diabetes Support and Education Group

Do you have diabetes or have a loved one who has been diagnosed? Do you live in the Dallas area? Then, consider joining us for the Baylor Scott & White – Plano Diabetes Support and Education Group.

The beginning of the session is a time for support—asking questions and sharing with other people affected by diabetes. Next, one hour is devoted to education, primarily on prediabetes and type 1 and type 2 diabetes management.

Various topics are discussed, including:

  • Diabetes and nutrition
  • Understanding blood glucose levels and your lab work
  • Preventing the complications of diabetes
  • Artificial sweeteners and their impact
  • How to read food labels
  • Grocery shopping tips for people with diabetes


Day: Second Thursday of every month (except during July and December)
7 p.m.
Snacks will be provided.

Baylor Scott & White – Plano Diabetes Self-Management Training Programs

For people who have diabetes, knowledge is power. Monitoring blood sugar levels and keeping blood sugar levels in the normal range are key for people who have type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes.

At Baylor Scott & White – Plano, our Diabetes Self-Management Training Programs help people of all ages in the Dallas area learn how to successfully manage diabetes.

In the diabetes management programs, Baylor Scott & White – Plano diabetes experts, including a registered dietitian and a registered nurse, help participants plan meals and make better food choices at home and on the go. They empower participants to:

  • Understand diabetes and its possible complications
  • Manage their disease today and for a lifetime
  • Use their own blood glucose monitor and interpret the results
  • Develop coping skills

Because diabetes management is so important, diabetes classes are offered at a variety of times to fit your schedule, including evenings and weekends. For more information, please call 1.844.BSWDOCS.

To schedule your diabetes education program, visit or contact your physician. Your physician’s office will fax an order for diabetes education to 469.814.6761 or will call the diabetes education department at 469.814.6896. We will contact your physician for an order. When the order is received, our staff will contact you to schedule your appointment. Please note: Your health insurance carrier may pay for part or all of diabetes education services. Please contact your health insurance carrier to check your benefits for diabetes self-management training.

Baylor Scott & White – Plano offers the following diabetes management programs:

Diabetes Self-Management Training Program for Type 2 Diabetes: This eight- to 10-hour multidisciplinary program covers a full range of lifestyle and disease prevention topics. A one-on-one and group education program is designed to meet individual education needs. The program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association.

Diabetes Self-Management Training Program for Type 1 Diabetes: This program includes a comprehensive assessment and review of self-care behaviors. A one-on-one program is designed to meet individual education needs.

Prediabetes Education Program: Designed specifically for people diagnosed with prediabetes, this program centers on a healthy lifestyle and includes a comprehensive assessment and meal planning with a registered dietitian.

Diabetes During Pregnancy: Specifically for pregnant women who’s pregnancy has been complicated by diabetes, the program consists of intensive, individual meal planning, blood glucose and ketone testing instructions, exercise plans as recommended by a physician, and insulin therapy when required.

Insulin Pump Program: This program includes a comprehensive assessment, education and support for individuals choosing to use an insulin pump.

Medical Nutrition Therapy: With the focus on planning meals and using a variety of tools, a registered dietitian assists individuals who need additional support and education in food management.

Diabetes Type 2 for Adolescents: To assess and educate both established and newly diagnosed adolescents who have type 2 diabetes, this program takes a comprehensive family approach.
