Medical Education Community Engagement Committee
The Medical Education Community Engagement Committee creates and supports initiatives that help enhance diversity and belonging across our GME programs. We strive to uphold an inclusive and supportive environment for all our trainees and the patient community we care for.
The Committee has involvement in coordinating community engagement activities and events across Medical Education. Current initiatives include;
- Hosting quarterly events to commemorate the diverse celebrations within our medical education community.
- Develop volunteer opportunities for our medical education community through events and organizations to enhance our presence and engagement within the community we serve.
- Participate in the coordination of community outreach activities to develop programmatic exposure to multiple career options in medicine and other interprofessional health-related fields at Baylor University Medical Center.
Council members include Residents, Fellows, affiliated Medical Students, Faculty and Medical Education staff.
Visiting medical student rotation scholarship
As part of our commitment to the next generation of medicine, the Medical Education Community Engagement Committee has scholarship opportunities for rising 4th year medical students attending Baylor University Medical Center through VSLO approved rotations.

Submit all application materials or questions to Sarah Wilson at Sarah.Wilson1@BSWHealth.org. Applications are accepted between abril 1 and junio 1. Any applications submitted after the deadline may be considered if space allows. If selected, you will receive notification via email by junio 21.
Scholarship overview
The goal of the scholarship is to support applicants who demonstrate a commitment to community engagement and collaborative, team-based service, while also easing the financial burden students may experience during an away rotation. Students interested in pursuing a career in one of the following specialties are eligible to apply: Dermatology, Diagnostic Radiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Orthopedic Surgery, Pathology, or Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. One scholarship award of up to $1,500 will be available for each specialty to support a rotation at Baylor University Medical Center or Baylor Scott and White Medical Center-Waxahachie between July and January.
Who should apply
Senior medical students entering the current year’s match that are from LCME or AOA-accredited medical schools within the United States and Puerto Rico but whose home institution is outside of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex are welcome to apply. Students must first submit a rotation application through the Association of American Medical Colleges' (AAMC) Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) site. Senior students from Texas A&M Health Science Center Vashisht College of Medicine that are not assigned to Dallas as their home campus may apply after they have been scheduled to a visiting elective associated with the residency they intend to match into.
