The Baylor Scott & White Gastroenterology fellowship in Round Rock is a three-year, ACGME-accredited fellowship program designed to provide practical experience in Gastroenterology through role modeling, didactic education, research, and the direct supervision of clinical training.
Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH) is the largest not-for-profit health system in Texas, serving the Austin, Temple, Waco, Dallas, and Fort Worth regions. Our fellowship is based in Round Rock, TX, a suburb within the booming Austin, TX metropolitan area.
The program accepts two fellows per year and is open to residency graduates who are board-eligible or board-certified at the start of training.

Our fellowship is aimed to produce highly skilled gastroenterologists targeted for clinical practice.
Over the course of three years fellows will rotate and participate in various areas of gastroenterology, including inpatient service, outpatient service, general endoscopy and advanced endoscopy procedures, IBD, hepatology, and clinical research.
Teaching is done in an interactive practice-oriented and evidence-based approach, self-learning, and lecture sessions.
Fellows mainly rotate at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Round Rock. Fellows also rotate in two other Baylor Scott & White Medical Centers- Pflugerville and Lakeway facilities.
Mission
The mission of our fellowship training program at Baylor Scott & White Health in Round Rock, Texas is to provide an academically and clinically rigorous training program in Gastroenterology. This will be accomplished by providing role modeling, education, research and direct supervision of the clinical training of our trainees. We strive to promote the well-being of all individuals and families in the communities we serve.
Rotaciones
The chart below provides an overview of the number of months allocated to each rotation by training year. All required rotations take place within the Greater Austin Region (GAR), except for the BUMC Transplant Hepatology rotation near Dallas, TX. Housing is provided for fellows during this 1-month rotation in the second year of training.

Gastroenterology fellows are exposed to the following procedures during their training:
- Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy; including:
- Therapeutic management for bleeding
- Esophageal dilation
- BRAVO pH
- HALO RFA
- Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG)
- Small bowel endoscopy
- Colonoscopia
- Ultrasonido endoscópico
- ERCP
- Endoscopic mucosal resection both upper and lower
- Video capsule endoscopy

Fellows actively participate in preparing for lectures to educate themselves and their peers. A variety of conferences are held each week and include:

Quality improvement
Quality improvement (QI) is an essential component of our fellowship training. All fellows actively participate in at least one QI initiative during their three-year program, collaborating closely with faculty, interdisciplinary teams, and hospital leadership. These projects often span multiple departments and focus on enhancing patient care, optimizing clinical processes, and promoting system-level improvements.

We use the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) to electronically accept fellowship applications, letters of recommendations, dean’s letters, transcripts and other credentials directly from your medical school.

Interested applicants are encouraged to directly contact the Program Administrator(s).
Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, and interviews are generally offered between September and November.
