Our training facility  performs the fifth-most valve procedures in the United States annually and is the fourth busiest programs in the nation for both general thoracic and cardiac robotic surgery

The Heart Hospital – Plano was recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a high performing hospital for heart bypass surgery, aortic valve surgery, aortic aneurysm repair and transcatheter aortic valve replacement along with being named as a Best Hospital for Cardiology and Heart Surgery in 2021-2022 and 2022-2023.

Investigación


Our faculty members are active in scholarly activities, and several have extensive research endeavors.

There is a weekly research conference and a monthly conference where investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored trials are discussed. This conference includes discussion on how research is explained to patients and applied to patient care.

Fellows are expected to author one research project. In addition to one-on-one coaching from faculty, fellows learn the basics of research through a dedicated monthly research lecture with topics that include:

  • Research planning and design
  • Biostatistics and data analysis
  • Clinical trials research
  • Outcomes data research
  • Ethical decision making in research and ramifications
  • Applying research to patient care
  • Appraising the literature when reading cohort, case-controlled, randomized-controlled or cross-over trials
  • Manuscript preparation
  • Abstract preparation and presentation
  • Explaining research to patients

How to apply

Our program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and uses the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) to electronically accept fellowship applications, letters of recommendations, dean’s letters, transcripts and other credentials directly from the applicant's medical school.

Applicants are responsible for ensuring that all application materials are completed and properly submitted through ERAS. The Fellowship Selection Committee will review all completed applications and select candidates for interviews. Interviews will be arranged by invitation only.
