Our goal is to prepare pathologists for either community practice with a subspecialty focus or academic breast and gynecological pathology, by providing in-depth experience with graduated responsibility

The Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Baylor College of Medicine Temple, Breast and Gynecological Pathology Fellowship is a one-year fellowship program approved by the Texas Medical Board and offers advanced training in all aspects of breast and gynecological pathology.

Our laboratory processes more than 90,000 surgical pathology accessions per year, including nearly 4000 breast specimens and 11,000 gynecological specimens.

We accept one fellow per year. Fellows will spend all of their training time in Temple, TX

As the largest not-for-profit health care system in Texas and one of the largest in the United States, Baylor Scott & White serves 41 counties through 52 hospitals, more than 1,200 access points, more than 7,100 active physicians, more than 52,000 team members and the Baylor Scott & White Health Plan.

Curriculum

The fellow will be involved in all aspects of the breast and gynecological pathology services and be responsible for a good proportion of in-house cases and all consultation cases.

The program includes

  • 5 months of breast pathology
  • 5 months of gynecological pathology
  • 1 month of elective/ research, tailored to best suit the interests of our fellows

Opportunities for one-week long rotations in other specialties such as breast imaging, medical oncology and radiation oncology are available, to better understand the role of the pathologist in multidisciplinary treatment.

The fellow will be involved with teaching residents and will be required to give one didactic session and one unknown slide conference over the year.

The fellow will be expected to prepare and present at breast and gynecological pathology tumor boards; develop at least one area of interest in either breast or gynecological pathology; and pursue at least one research project with the intent of presentation at a national conference and publication.

There are no on-call responsibilities.
