As a faith-based program our goal is to train new medical doctors into skillful family medicine physicians to provide holistic care by treating the whole person, body, mind and spirit

The Family Medicine Residency Program at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Waxahachie is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) as a three-year residency program, accepting four residents per year. Faculty are members of the medical staff that work in a variety of specialties, passionate about teaching and have years of experience in residency and medical student training.

Graduate Medical Education (GME) at Baylor Scott & White Waxahachie is affiliated with Baylor University Medical Center Dallas, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, driving excellence in medical education since 1904. With 11 residency programs and 34 fellowship programs in Dallas, it is one of the largest GME programs in the nation.

As the largest not-for-profit health care system in Texas and one of the largest in the United States, Baylor Scott & White serves 41 counties through 52 hospitals, more than 1,200 access points, more than 7,100 active physicians, more than 52,000 team members and the Baylor Scott & White Health Plan.

Clinical Services


Inpatient

Baylor Scott and White Medical Center – Waxahachie is a 134-bed, Level IV Trauma Center with a designated primary stroke center, Level II special care unit, Level III maternal care center, 12 ICU beds, an ED department with 37 treatment spaces short-term acute care hospital, serving as the primary training site for the residency.

With Baylor Scott & White – Waxahachie’s comprehensive, top-rated clinical services and resources being leveraged on resident rotations, the program will provide robust learning experiences to residents while being supervised by board-certified physicians.

The physician faculty members at Baylor Scott & White – Waxahachie will provide high quality supervision and training to the residents while they rotate to the hospital in all three program years.




Outpatient

Residents will have the unique opportunity to provide comprehensive care along with faculty in the Baylor Scott & White Family Medicine Residency Clinic – Waxahachie, a culturally and ethnically diverse medical staff and community.

Ellis County’s population has seen significant growth over the years. The largest annual population increase occurred between 2019 – 2020, with a remarkable growth rate of 5.2%.

Residents will rotate to this site longitudinally for their continuity clinic experiences as well as for other outpatient rotations. When at the clinic, residents will gain exposure to the spectrum of conditions usually found in outpatient clinical settings.
