Our two-year rheumatology fellowship program provides robust clinical training in an education-oriented environment

At the Baylor Scott and White Medical Center – Baylor College of Medicine Rheumatology Fellowship Training Program, our mission is to train the next generation of rheumatologists to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and to foster development of life-long learners and future medical educators in a collaborative and supportive learning environment.

Our two-year program provides robust clinical training in an education-oriented environment. We are the largest rheumatology division in central Texas and provide the only inpatient rheumatology consultation service between Dallas-Forth Worth and Austin; fellows are exposed to a broad variety of rheumatologic diseases and learn to treat patients with complex conditions. Fellows graduate with the skills, abilities, and confidence to pursue careers in community practice and academic medicine. All fellows also receive training in musculoskeletal ultrasound.

The BSWH-BCM Rheumatology Fellowship has been initially accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Clinical rotations take place at the Baylor Scott and White Temple Medical Center.

We accept 2 fellows per year.

As the largest not-for-profit health care system in Texas and one of the largest in the United States, Baylor Scott & White serves 41 counties through 53 hospitals, more than 1,300 access points, more than 7,100 active physicians, more than 59,000 team members and the Baylor Scott & White Health Plan.

Curriculum

About the program

Our two-year fellowship program curriculum is designed to prepare fellows for confident clinical practice[LKJM1.1] as well as the rheumatology board certification exam.

Didactic instruction provides a foundation of knowledge regarding pathophysiology of rheumatologic disease and evidence-based management of common and rare conditions. Because of the multi-systemic nature of so many rheumatology diseases, multidisciplinary teaching prepares fellows to treat patients alongside other specialists in clinical settings.
