Our one-year program combines in-depth, high-level training in various subspecialties of surgical pathology
The Surgical Pathology Fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, is fully accredited by the Texas Medical Board. Our primary training facility's case volume is nearly 57,000 annually and represents a broad spectrum of pathology case types.
We accept one fellow each year.

The emphasis of the program is on progressive independence in case management. This includes gross examination, intraoperative consultation, microscopic diagnosis, as well as ancillary and molecular testing, resulting in a complete diagnostic report on complex cases.
RESPONSABILIDADES
Our program is structured similarly to that of a staff pathologist. Fellows are scheduled within the attending rotation schedule each month. The goal of this fellowship is to provide the fellow with the closest experience to being a staff pathologist as possible.
Responsibilities include:
- Frozen sections
- General surgical pathology sign-out, which includes:
- Pecho
- GYN
- GI/liver
- Trasplante
- Consults
- Cytology
- Neuropathology frozen section
- Outpatient biopsies
Scholarly activity
Fellows are expected to:
- Participate in the education of rotating residents and medical students as well as evaluate their performance
- Attend and present cases to the faculty and staff at a daily consensus conference
- Attend and present at didactic sessions and journal club meetings
- Participate in the QA Committee and complete a QA Project
- Attend and present cases at subspecialty tumor boards and MDTs
We strongly encourage fellows to participate in a research project with abstract and presentation at a national meeting.

Fellows are on call for one week every six to eight weeks. Call primarily includes transplant donor biopsies.

We use the standardized application for pathology fellowships from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Residents Forum.
Applications are accepted from August to October two years before the start of the fellowship. Interviews will be scheduled from September to December, tentatively.
