Our radiology division performs more than 3,000 interventional procedures and 2,600 diagnostic angiograms each year.
The Interventional Radiology Independent Residency at Baylor University Medical Center, part of Baylor Scott & White, is fully accredited by Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Our program provides comprehensive training in all aspects of vascular and non-vascular and diagnostic angiography.
We currently have approval for two positions in the Interventional Radiology Independent Residency.

Our program is designed to provide comprehensive, full-time training and experience in evaluation and management of patients requiring image-guided diagnostic vascular and interventional procedures.
Our goal is to enhance residents' knowledge of the signs and symptoms of disorders amenable to diagnosis and/or treatment by percutaneous techniques.
By the end of the residency, our trainees should gain an understanding of:
- Significance of the symptoms
- Pathophysiology and natural history of the medical disorders
- Indications for and contraindications to vascular and interventional procedures

Baylor Dallas has five angiographic suites, including three new, advanced facilities and full-time interventional radiologists on its medical staff.
Fellows gain experience performing procedures including:
- Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS) creation
- Vascular stent placement
- Stent grafts
- Transluminal angioplasty
- Atherectomy
- Thrombolysis
- Embolization
- Chemoembolization
- Biliary drainage
- Biliary stent placement
- Stone extraction
- Abscess drainage
- Biopsies
- Gastrojejunostomy catheter placement
- A variety of urological interventional procedures
Procedures are guided by a number of imaging modalities including fluoroscopy, angiography, computed topography, ultrasonography and other modalities.

Conferences
Throughout the residency, trainees are exposed to the fundamentals of radiation physics, radiation biology and radiation protection. Residents are taught the mechanisms of conducting research as well as how to evaluate published material for accuracy and clinical usefulness.
Our residents are required to attend or participate in departmental, intra-department and national conferences geared to their specialty. Residents are also expected to give no less than two resident conferences during the academic year.

Residents are required to complete at least one project as principal investigator, with submission of at least one scientific paper or exhibit to a regional or national meeting. This submission is peer-reviewed.
Residents have access to a conference room that includes a new projection system and a computer room that contains multiple computers for education and research. The reference library is updated annually, and an institutional medical library also is available for more intensive and detailed educational needs.

How to apply
We use the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) to electronically accept residency applications, letters of recommendations, dean’s letters, transcripts and other credentials directly from your medical school.
We will begin accepting applications for the position through ERAS beginning Dec. 1. Deadline for applications is enero 15.
We will review applications from both ESIR and non-ESIR applicants. We will interview/rank candidates based on application quality and not whether candidates will train as an independent IR resident for one or two years.

Our program does consider non-US applicants. International applications should provide:
- J-1 Visa (H-1B visas cannot be accepted)
- Evidence of clinic experience in US (observerships, etc.)
- USMLE or COMLEX transcripts for parts I and II
