Servicios para pacientes internados

Inpatient training at Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC), a 1,000+ bed tertiary acute care hospital, provides residents with comprehensive experience in various settings. They manage a wide range of neurological conditions through standard inpatient services, handle neurological emergencies in the emergency department, and treat critically ill patients with complex neurological conditions in the neuro-critical care unit.

Residents also participate in procedures and interventions in the surgical suites and neuro-interventional radiology angio suites, while gaining access to advanced imaging and monitoring tools, including MRI, CT, and continuous video-EEG. Additionally, they collaborate with various subspecialties, including neurosurgery, critical care, psychiatry, and internal medicine, through consulting services. This diverse experience ensures that residents are well-prepared for all aspects of inpatient neurology care. .

Servicios ambulatorios

Residents will participate in multidisciplinary outpatient clinics, collaborating with interprofessional teams such as physical therapy, surgery, and radiation oncology.

At the Baylor Scott & White Neurology Dallas Clinics, they will conduct neurological exams, perform procedures like Botox injections, and utilize on-site EEG and NCS/EMG diagnostic services. They will also gain specialized experience in the Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology Clinic, focusing on neurobehavioral, cognitive disorders and headache management.

Additionally, residents will participate in the Baylor Scott & White Teleneurology Network, which includes Telestroke and Teleneurohospitalist services across several BSWH facilities.

From PGY2 to PGY4, residents will provide continuous care for their patient population during half-day continuity clinics.

Conferences

To ensure our residents are equipped with comprehensive knowledge in all aspects of neurology, we offer a longitudinal lecture curriculum that spans the full four years of training. These topics are delivered through faculty-led lectures during blocked didactic sessions, which are scheduled in the afternoons throughout each month. Evidence-based medicine is emphasized during clinical teaching rounds.

Regularly scheduled conferences include:

  • Neurovascular conference
  • Neuroradiology conference
  • Club de diarios
  • Morning report (weekly)
  • Morbidity and mortality conference
  • Epilepsy conference

Our conference rooms are equipped with video conferencing capabilities, both in the inpatient offices and outpatient clinics. All lectures and conferences are accessible via interactive Teams Videoconferencing, allowing residents on off-site or telemedicine rotations to participate remotely.

Investigación

Residents are encouraged to engage in research projects in collaboration with faculty, with a focus on clinical, translational, or basic science research. This may involve investigating novel treatments for neurological disorders, analyzing neuroimaging data, or exploring genetic factors in neurodegenerative diseases. Residents are supported in presenting their research at national meetings and contributing to academic publications.

Resident will also participate in a quality improvement (QI) project aimed at improving patient care or departmental processes. Residents will work closely with faculty to design, implement, and evaluate these projects, enhancing their skills in evidence-based practice and healthcare systems improvement.
